Instrument Care
Cleaning of instruments is essential before sterilising.
Instruments should be washed in warm water (using a stiff
non-metal brush to remove any debris) using a neutral pH
detergent. Pliers and cutters can also be cleaned ultrasonically
(not recommended for fine tipped or delicate hand instruments
or probes).
When ultrasonically cleaning the following is recommended:
•
Leave instruments in open position
•
Do not mix different metals
•
Change solution regularly
•
After cleaning, rinse and dry thoroughly
Sterilisation
After cleaning, make sure instruments are dry and lubricate
joints and hinges using an approved lubricating oil specifically
for surgical instruments. We recommend DT77 (see page 195)
Always sterilise instruments in the open position, and follow the
sterilising equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
When the sterilisation cycle is complete, remove and dry
instruments as soon as possible.
